On January 27, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Justice of Georgia within the framework of the visit of the leadership of the Union of Arab States of the Turkish World to the Republic of Georgia. The meeting was attended by the heads of departments of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, Chairman of the Mediation Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan Nadir Adilov, Chairman of the Board of the Union of Mediators of the Turkic World Yakup Erikel, Director General of the Association of Mediators of Kazakhstan Zhandilda Yakupov, Adviser to the Chairman of the Mediation Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan Javid Huseynov.
During the meeting, the development of the mediation institute, opportunities for international cooperation in this area, legal regulation mechanisms, and areas of joint activity were discussed.
At the meeting, the Georgian side informed about the formation and implementation of a mediation system in the country.
The representatives of Azerbaijan informed about the work done to develop the mediation institute in the country, the ongoing legal reforms and the steps taken to further improve the mediation system.
At the same time, the sides exchanged views on the Singapore Convention and its impact on international cooperation in the field of mediation. The Azerbaijani side stated that it has considered the issue of accession to the convention, and the analysis carried out in this direction is ongoing. The leadership of the Association of Mediators of the Turkic World also noted that the Singapore Convention covers only commercial disputes, and stressed the importance of developing a new regional mediation convention covering broader legal disputes for Turkish states and neighboring countries. It was suggested that this new convention should cover both commercial disputes and broader legal issues.In addition, the topic of discussion was the promotion of mediation among young people and the implementation of joint projects in this area.
It is proposed to organize joint programs for law students aimed at improving knowledge and skills in the field of mediation. As part of this initiative, students should be familiar with mediation mechanisms, gain practical knowledge and contribute to the development of mediation in the future.
The meeting also discussed the issue of supporting neighboring countries that need to develop mediation institutions.
